You are asked to provide your surgeon with information regarding:-
» Your general health.
» Medications that you are taking.
» Allergies
» Previous operations
» Bleeding disorders
» Other bone and joint problems.
Although the complications are rare, the possible ones include infection, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, fractures and loosening of prosthesis. Your orthopaedic surgeon and the hospital staff will do their best to try and prevent these complications from occurring.
Before Surgery
» Continue leading a normal, healthy lifestyle, and be sure to let your surgeon know about any infections or leg sores. Avoid any injections into the knee joint
» If you are taking aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, you should cease this medication at least 7 days before your operation. You may continue taking Cox-II inhibitors such as Celebrex and Arcoxia
» Remember to bring your X-rays with you to the hospital.
Our hospital staff will notify you of your surgery and scheduled admission times. You may not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your surgery. Please take a shower or bath and wash your body thoroughly. Try to rest and go to bed early.
